Professional Bio

Josefina Cárcamo Vergara is a first-year
graduate student in Comparative Politics and
Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. She
comes to Penn State from Texas Tech University,
earning an MA in political science with a major in
Comparative Politics and MPA in public affairs
from Indiana University Bloomington after
working for five years as a lawyer in Colombia.
Her research interests focus on the drivers and
consequences of women's representation and
participation in decision-making positions in
government and politics. She is particularly
interested in women and Latin American politics.
In her free time, she likes painting, baking,
gardening, and Colombian coffee. A fun fact about
her is that she studied painting for two years while
studying law.
