Walsh Receives Fulbright Award

Political Science graduate student, Lindsay Walsh, was awarded a Fulbright Open Study/Research Award to complete her dissertation research in Amman, Jordan during the 2024 – 2025 academic year. She will affiliate with the Center for Strategic Studies at the University of Jordan during her fieldwork. Fulbright Jordan supports a select group of US scholars from varied disciplines to conduct research each year. Fulbright US Scholar grant recipients are expected to collaborate and mentor host country students, contribute to cutting-edge research, give presentations, and engage with the local Jordanian communities. The Fulbright Open Study research award supports students in their travel and relocation and also provides financial resources, networks, and research opportunities.

Lindsay’s research examines the effect of electoral institutions on women’s political ambition to pursue office in Jordan. Her project will examine the impact of developing party systems on women’s emergence as candidates. It will particularly investigate when and through what source women are recruited for office, and how recruitment practices are gendered.
