Professor Wright and coauthors published an article at Politico, which discusses their research from a recently published book, The Origins of Elected Strongmen. The book demonstrates how personalist political parties — which exist primarily to further their leader’s political career as opposed to promoting a specific policy platform — undermine democracy across the globe.
