Graduate student Christopher Willis recently published a solo-authored article, “Sexual Violence by the State: The Role of Political Institutions in Sexual Violence Perpetration” in International Studies Quarterly. Willis explores the occurrence of sexual violence by state security forces using cross-national data during times of both peace and conflict. He finds that sexual violence is highest in personalist regimes, regimes with weak female empowerment, and regimes with high levels of corruption.
