Ishita’s research connects online political activism to offline contentious actions and furthers our understanding of peaceful political contestation, political regime change, and state-led repression. Her project will examine the coverage of protests on Telegram – an encrypted messaging application with social media like features – which, according to anecdotal evidence, has gained immense popularity amongst anti regime protesters in countries as different as Hong Kong, Belarus, Russia, and Iran.

Congratulations Ishita!
