Professional Bio

Yasin Shafi is from Dhaka, Bangladesh. He completed his Master of Public Policy from the Gerald R Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan with a scholarship from the Fulbright Foreign Student Program. Before this, he completed his undergraduate and graduate studies in Development Studies from the University of Dhaka. He is interested in authoritarian politics, democratic backsliding, and political economy. From 2018 to 2023, Yasin worked as a Lecturer at the Department of Development Studies in the Bangladesh University of Professionals. He has also collaborated with several research organizations in Bangladesh and has conducted impact evaluation studies for projects commissioned by various development organizations. Yasin is a former competitive debater and co-authored and co-edited "Aajker Bitorko," a book on contemporary debating techniques. He is the founder of "Sodium Batir Gaan," a live music platform for independent musicians at the University of Dhaka. Yasin is a social individual who enjoys engaging with the community, documenting life’s little moments through taking photos, and seeing new places.
