Roseanne McManus, professor of political science and international affairs, and her coauthors published an article in American Political Science Review titled, “The Domestic Sources of International Trust”.
The article argues that domestic policy choices are often more useful than foreign policy actions, like arms reductions, for building trust between rival countries. The reason is that domestic policies can shed light on a state’s international intentions, without opening the state up to exploitation by a potentially untrustworthy rival.
