Professional Bio
Cyanne E. Loyle is the Political Science Board of Visitors Early Career Professor of Political Science and International Affairs at the Pennsylvania State University and Research Professor at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO). Loyle’s current research focuses on rebel judicial systems, contested sovereignty and collective action during climate crises, and government use and misuse of transitional justice. This research includes fieldwork in Mozambique, Nepal, Northern Ireland, Rwanda, Uganda, and Turkey. She is the author of Escaping Justice: State Impunity in the Age of Accountability (Cambridge University Press, 2025) and co-author of Rebel Governance in the Age of Climate Change (Cambridge University Press, Elements Series, 2025). Her work has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the US Institute of Peace, the US Minerva Program, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Research Council of Norway.
