Juhyeok Lee
Professional Bio
Juhyeok Lee is a first-year graduate student in Comparative Politics. He comes to Penn State from Korea University in Seoul, South Korea, where he pursued a master's degree in political science after completing an undergraduate degree in Economics. He is particularly interested in how authoritarian rulers respond to mass mobilization and in understanding why some citizens in post-authoritarian democracies, such as South Korea, valorize former dictators as "guardians of liberal democracy." Separately, he has recently begun a survey experiment identifying the conditions under which divided rulings and partisan criticism erode diffuse support for the Constitutional Court of South Korea. Outside of research, he enjoys going to the theater and is working on making exercise a more regular habit. He has watched the NBC comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine at least three times through and would likely recommend it to anyone who asked.
