Professional Bio

Jared F. Edgerton is an Assistant Professor of Political Science and a Faculty Affiliate at the Center for Social Data Analytics. His research focuses on using machine learning, network analysis, and natural language processing to address questions in international security, political violence, and other social processes. His work has appeared in top journals such as the American Journal of Political Science, Journal of Politics, American Sociological Review, Journal of Conflict Resolution, and Science Advances.

Before coming to Penn State, Jared was an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Dallas and worked as a postdoctoral fellow and researcher at Stanford University’s Human Trafficking Data Lab. Jared earned his Ph.D. in Political Science from The Ohio State University.

Jared's current projects include examining political rhetoric on nontraditional audio mediums, analyzing governments' use of lawfare to censor political dissent, studying participation and mobilization in political violence, forecasting conflict, exploring networks of cooperation and conflict within the United Nations, and investigating how political rhetoric is shaped by gun violence, among other areas.
