Penn State Department of Political Science

Study Abroad and Undergraduate Education

Study Abroad Information
General Information Program Information Sponsored Programs
Students majoring in International Politics and Political Science often include study abroad as an integral part of their studies.  Some study abroad programs work quite nicely with the minor as well.  The department has one of highest rates of participation in overseas programs both in the College of Liberal Arts and the University as a whole.  In an increasingly interdependent world and economy, promoting familiarity with and knowledge about diverse regions of the globe is a central part of the department's mission in undergraduate education.  It is one component of your future success, whether you decide to pursue a career in the public, private or non-profit sector.

Penn State supports a broad range of study abroad programs in just about every region of the globe.  It is possible to study for a whole year, a semester, or a summer abroad.  In some programs, it is possible to combine study with internships as well.  The department works to create and sponsor programs which fit easily into our curriculum.  Since 1999 we have helped to run a summer program on European Integration in Maastricht in the Netherlands, and recently created an exchange program with the Institute of Political Science (Science Po) in Lille, France.

The department will work with you to find a program that fits your needs and minimize the difficulty in fitting your overseas courses into your major requirements.
