From the generosity of our alumni we have funds available to support student research, internships, and study abroad.  If you are doing an internship or going abroad this spring get your application in by 12/14.  We’ll announce the deadline for summer support next semester, but will accept applications on a rolling basis.

Political Science Enrichment Programs

For Internships:  If you have been accepted into an internship you can apply for internship support. Please complete the application form, and submit a 1-2 page letter describing your internship, its relationship to your course of study, and expected expenses.  Let us know if you will be receiving a stipend or pay for the internship.  Please update us if there are any changes in your internship plans after submitting the application.  Some of these funds are limited to students with demonstrated financial need. If you think you may be eligible for financial aid make sure you have completed a FAFSA form. (For information on FAFSA, go to http://www.psu.edu/studentaid)

For Study Abroad:  If you are planning on studying abroad complete this application form. Please submit a 1-2 page description of your travel plans including the country and institution at which you will be studying and how studying abroad relates to your course of study in Political Science or International Politics. 

For Research:  Complete this application form and a 1-2 page letter describing your research and how you will use research funds.

Carnegie Endowment for International Peace Junior Fellows Program
The Penn State campus deadline is December 15, 2006.

Each year, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace holds a rigorous national competition to select approximately 8 graduating seniors to serve as research assistants.  They are matched with senior associates – academics, former government officials, lawyers and journalists from around the world – to work on a variety of international affairs issues.

Junior Fellows have the opportunity to conduct research for books, participate in meetings with high-level officials, contribute to congressional testimony and organize briefings attended by scholars, activists, journalists and government officials.

Junior Fellows spend one year (beginning August 1st) at the Carnegie Endowment in Washington, DC.  Positions are full-time and include a salary and benefits package.

2007 – 2008 Projects

 Democracy Building – Political Science background preferred.  Study of Middle Eastern politics may be helpful.

Non-Proliferation
Chinese Political and Economic Transitions – Chinese language skills desirable.

Russian and Eurasian Studies – Excellent Russian language skills required.
South Asian Studies (non-proliferation, international security, democracy development and trade)

FA Fellowship Program

This six-month fellowship program consists of an orientation and cultural seminar in New York, a language and seminar program in Moscow and a subsequent five-month work assignment in Russia. Fellows share their research interests and develop agendas for the work phase at the orientation seminar. All scheduled activities in Russia are conducted in Russian.

This nine-month work/study fellowship program enables twenty young American professionals to acquire in-depth understanding of the politics, economics, and culture of Germany and the European Union. Fellows complete two internships: first, in federal and regional government institutions, and second, in private industry and the media.

Presidential Management Intern Program (PMI)

PMI is a two-year, post-graduate program for MA, MIPP, or PhD graduates interested in a career in the analysis and management of public policies and programs.  PMI's work in professional positions in the federal government and receive professional development.

Provides the opportunity to spend the summer working with a member of Congress or at the State Department on foreign affairs issues.  Stipend of $1800.00 awarded.
