Thinking about Law School?

Whether you know you want to go to law school or are just thinking about it you'll find it valuable to meet Liberal Arts alumni working in the legal profession.  Be sure to attend the Liberal Arts Law  panel discussion with Q & A Thursday, November 16, 2006 at 7:30pm in 112 Chambers Building.  But to really take advantage of the opportunity, sign up for a one-on-one appointment with any of the visiting attorneys on Friday morning (11/17).  For a list of attendees with their bios, additional information, and to sign up for the one-on-ones, go to http://www.la.psu.edu/cla-alumni/law/.

Don't miss this fabulous opportunity to learn about a wide variety of law careers and law schools with lawyer-alumni from Philadelphia, Washington, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Harrisburg in large and small private practice, government, and the teaching of law.

Apply for Fellowship

The Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation is seeking talented and highly motivated college sophomores to apply for 2007 Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowships. The program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of State, honors former Ambassador Pickering, one of the country’s most respected Foreign Service Officers.

Applicants must have minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.2 or higher (on scale of 4.0), and must be interested in becoming Foreign Service Officers in the U.S. Department of State. Candidates should have performed well in their academic coursework and have participated in activities that attest to their leadership potential and involvement in their communities. As noted, “Women, members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service and students with financial need are encouraged to apply.”

The 2007 Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship application is available online at the founder’s website www.woodrow.org.

The deadline date is February 9, 2007

Plan Ahead for the Undergraduate Research Exhibition

If you are involved in research this year, consider presenting your results at the undergraduate research exhibition in April 2007.  Winners receive cash prizes, but everyone invited to participate gets the opportunity to prepare a poster of their research results and to present them to the University community.

The April 4 exhibition is open to all Penn State undergraduate students.

Summer Human Rights Work in Europe

This Humanity in Action summer program in Europe is all expense paid

Humanity in Action sponsors six summer programs on minority and human rights issues in Europe and the United States. A total of 62 students from U.S. colleges and universities will be invited to participate in the 2007 programs. Fellows are selected on the basis of academic achievement, leadership ability, and commitment to human rights and minority issues. The 2007 summer programs will take place in Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen, New York, Paris, and Warsaw. To ensure participation of all qualified applicants, HIA pays virtually all of the costs of participation.

Humanity in Action (HIA) is a New York-based, not-for-profit, organization founded in 1998. HIA believes that an important test of a genuine democracy is how it treats its racial, ethnic, and religious minorities. It also believes that the commitment to democratic values and the protection of minorities cannot be taken for granted in the United States and Europe. HIA provides fellows with a common educational background, experience working with peers across the Atlantic, and access to a network of board members and experts for lifelong guidance and support. Through core summer programs, Senior Fellows networks, and prestigious national and international internship opportunities, HIA encourages fellows to become global leaders.

Complete information about HIA and the full range of our programs can be found on our website: www.humanityinaction.org.
