Description:

Capitol Hill Internship Opportunity:

The Men’s Health Network (MHN) is a non-profit educational organization comprised of physicians, researchers, public health workers, and other interested individuals. MHN is committed to improving the health and wellness of men through education campaigns, advocacy, research, and work with health care providers to realize better programs and higher funding for men’s health needs. With national headquarters located on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, MHN works to educate policy makers, the media, and the public on the health crisis facing today's men. This includes information on male-specific ailments, as well as the ways in which male health problems affect the workplace, the economy, and the family.
MHN offers a hands-on public policy experience. Interns are heavily involved in the design of their own learning plans, ensuring that they fit closely with their skills and interests. Prospective interns may approach MHN with a new project in mind, but generally, interns choose to focus on one or two of the following core MHN areas:

Legislative Advocacy:
Preparing and Preparing and presenting educational briefings for Congressional staff.
Attending and reporting on relevant Congressional hearings and local seminars.

Health Outreach:
Developing original health information brochure and literature.
Representing MHN at health fairs and public policy events.

Public Health Research:
Conducting original research on racial and gender health disparities.
Conducting original research on the health effects of family disintegration and social disadvantage.

Public Relations:
Designing and implementing campaigns to raise awareness of men’s health issues.
Informing media outlets of the pressing importance of men’s health.

MHN is seeking enthusiastic, independent interns to be directly involved with our mission of promoting health needs and the overall well being of men and their families. Applicants should have strong written and oral communication skills, basic computer literacy, and be self-motivated and goal-oriented. Knowledge of public policy, advocacy, and public health issues would be beneficial, but training is provided for those who need it. Starting and ending dates and working hours are negotiable and flexible, but in return, a degree of flexibility is expected when special events are taking place.
Applications, including a resume and cover letter, or further questions, should be directed to:
