The Political Science speakers’ series will continue in 2007-08 with a wide range of speakers. See the Department Calendar for a full listing of departmental events. (Unless otherwise specified, all talks will be held in 302 Pond Lab at 12:15pm.)
September 14, 2007 : Young Kim (Penn State graduate student); practice job talk
September 21, 2007 : Phil Arena (Penn State graduate student); practice job talk
September 24, 2007 : Kyle Joyce (Penn State graduate student); practice job talk
September 27 and 28, 2007 : Professor Melanie Manion, a noted scholar of China and Professor of Political Science and Public Affairs at the University of Wisconsin, will be the first outside speaker. She will give two lectures, the first, entitled "Representation in China: Local Congresses as Agents of Citizens and Party" will be on Thursday September 27, 2007 in Foster Auditorium, Pattee Library, at 6pm. The second, "Local Congresses and Congress Delegates in Mainland China as Agents of Democratization" will be in the Department on Friday September 28 at 12:15.

November 9, 2007 : Professor Wendy Brown will visit campus on Friday November 9, 2007 and will speak in the Department at 12:15 as part of our regular Friday speakers’ series. Professor Brown, a leading scholar in critical theory, is also a member of the APSA Council.
February 1, 2008 : Professor Dianne Pinderhuges will visit campus on Friday February 1, 2008 and will speak in the Department at 12:15. She is the President’s Distinguished Professor and Full Professor in the Departments of Africana Studies and Political Science at the university of Notre Dame. Professor Pinderhughes is also the President of the American Political Science Association for 2007-08.
February 8, 2008 : Professor Mark Sawyer, the associate professor at UCLA, will give a lecture on Friday February 8, 2008. He is a comparativist who has serious interests in Black Political Thought, Critical Race theory, Post-Colonial theory, and theories of the state.
February 22, 2008 : Professor David Leblang, the professor at the University of Colorado at Boulder, will visit and give a lecture entitled “Familiarity Breeds Investment: Migrant Networks and Cross-Border Capital" on Friday February 22, 2008 at 12:15.
March 27 and 28, 2008 : Professor Morris Fiorina at Stanford University will visit campus and give two lectures. The first will be on Thursday March 27, 2008 at 6:00pm in Foster Auditorium, and the second will be in the Department on March 28, 2008 at 12:15. He is the Wendt Family Professor of Political Science and a Senior Fellow of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University.
April 4, 2008 : Professor Harwood McClerking, the assistant professor of Political Science at Ohio State University, will visit campus. He will give a lecture titled "The Effect of Black Institutions on Black Group Identification" on Friday April 4, 2008.
