D. Scott Bennett was promoted to the rank of Distinguished Professor of Political Science in an announcement by Dean Welch on November 10, 2008. Scott has led our international relations program to a 15th rating nationally, and to a top position among programs focusing on the application of quantitative methods and computational modeling to international problems. Scott publishes regularly in the top journals of political science and international relations. His work is typically funded by the NSF, and this year he has new funding from DTRA for his work on insurgency. Scott is also an outstanding undergraduate instructor and a wonderful graduate mentor, whose Ph.D. students have recently gotten jobs at UC-Davis, LSU, and Arizona. The rank of Distinguished Professor, a university-wide honor, is reserved for only ten percent of all Penn State faculty
