Brief Biography

Ph.D., University of California, Los Angeles, 1969. Professor Myers primary research interests are in comparative politics with special attention to Latin America (emphasis on the Andean South America and Brazil), political parties, elections, and comparative urbanism. He has published more than fifty articles and book chapters, some of which have appeared in Comparative Politics, Comparative Political Studies, the Latin American Research Review and Latin American Politics and Society. He has authored, edited or co-edited eight books, most recently (with Jennifer McCoy) The Unraveling of Representative Democracy in Venezuela, Baltimore: Johns Hopkins University Press, 2005. He came to Penn State in 1973 from the United States Military Academy (West Point). A Fulbright scholar in 2005 (Universidad del Norte, Barranquilla, Colombia), he has held visiting appointments at the Central University of Venezuela, the Graduate School of Public and Business Administration (Instituto de Estudios Superiores de Administración - IESA) and the Raul Leoni Foundation in Caracas, Venezuela
