Alan Kerry joins the Political Science Alumni Board of Visitors

The department is pleased to announce that Alan Kerry, who was awarded the distinguished alumni award at our spring 2007 student – alumni banquet, has joined our Board of Visitors.

Alan E. Kerry has more than 30 years' experience in the development, marketing and management of various types of commercial real estate, including office, hotel, retail, residential and mixed-use projects.

From 1973 to 1985, Mr. Kerry held positions with ALCOA Properties, Inc. and Watt Industries, Inc. in Los Angeles, California. While with these companies, he was actively involved with the development, marketing and management of various commercial properties amounting to approximately 3,500,000 square feet of office space, a 750,000 square foot regional shopping center, 1,000 hotel rooms and various residential and resort land development projects.

In 1985 Mr. Kerry joined American Trading Real Estate Properties, Inc. (ATREPO) in its Los Angeles office as Vice President of Western Region Operations. In 1989 he was promoted to Senior Vice President, overseeing the operations and marketing of ATREPO's portfolio at the company's headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1993 he was elected President of American Trading Real Estate Properties, Inc.  In 1999 ATREPO was re-formed into Lord Baltimore Capital Corporation with its Real Estate Division, Lord Baltimore Properties.

Throughout his career Mr. Kerry has worked with various business and non­profit organizations, including the Boy Scouts, Junior Achievement, Rotary International, Chicago Title Advisory Board, Downtown Partnership, Ruxton Country School Board of Trustees, Genesis Jobs, Hillendale Country Club Board of Governors, Oldfields School Board of Trustees, and People’s Homesteading Group of Baltimore. In these organizations Mr. Kerry has held numerous leadership positions including Vice President of Hillendale Country Club for 3 years, Chair of Genesis Jobs for 4 years, Chair of Ruxton Country School Board of Trustees for 4 years, and Chair of Oldfields School Board of Trustees for 6 years. Mr. Kerry is a graduate of the 1995 Leadership Program of the Greater Baltimore Committee.

Mr. Kerry graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 1971 and 1973 with a Bachelor’s Degree majoring in Political Science and a Masters in Public Administration. He is married to Teri Ann Kerry, has three children, Michael (also a graduate of Penn State), Lannin and Christopher. Mr. Kerry and his family have also endowed a scholarship in the College of the Liberal Arts, in memory of his mother and father.

Alan and Teri live in Phoenix, Maryland, a northern suburb of Baltimore.
